The ex-member also known as Curtis Craig lived a bit further than Olivia had anticipated, and by the time she’d arrived at his converted Barn in Truro, the night sky had nearly fully descended despite it being early evening.

She double checked the address again. Yup. Correct. It had to be the one.

Somehow, she had images of them being popular, but not enough to warrant them living like rock legends.

Curtis’ house, however, shattered that perception. Despite being part of a local Cornish band, he’d done all right for himself.

Exposed beams mixed with modern architecture to create a conversion that looked as though it belonged on Grand Designs, and for all the money that he appeared to have made from ‘Of Eden’, it saddened her that he’d refused to help find a local missing boy.

The band’s reach would have been monumental in tracking him down.

She parked her car at the gate and pressed the buzzer.

Nothing at first, even though she could see a couple of cars parked in front of the garage, and all manner of lights were on.

She pressed the buzzer again, and this time, a woman answered.

“Hello?”

Olivia leaned out of her car window a little more.

“Hello, hi,” she responded. “I’m Detective Inspector Austin, and I’ve come to see Mr Curtis Craig.”

On the other end of the intercom, the woman tutted.

“What’s he gone and done now?” She sighed.

Ah, the famous line. Olivia had lost count of the number of times she had heard a family member ask that when she’d come calling.

“Is he home?” she pressed.

There wasn’t an answer, but the crackling of the system stopped, and the gate slowly opened.

I take that as a yes, she thought to herself, and she slowly made her way up the drive, the wheels of her car crunching over the gravel.

A blonde woman stood at the front door, arms wrapped around her body, visibly shivering as though she’d stepped out into the arctic.

She waved at Olivia, beckoning her over as though she’d get lost finding her way to the entrance.

“I’m his wife, Lulah,” she breathed after she’d closed the door. “I just don’t understand what all this is about.”

Liv took a moment to scan her surroundings. The barn looked disappointingly clinical on the inside, like they’d tried to go for the minimalistic look but failed.

And even though Lulah had been shivering at the door, inside wasn’t much warmer either.

Further into the house, a door clicked shut, and Mrs. Craig fisted her hips and looked in the direction of the sound of shuffling as a man came into view.

“Hurry up!” she hissed, slightly frustrated, but it didn’t quicken his pace. “Inspector, Curtis. Curtis, this is the Inspector that was asking after you.”

Mr Craig narrowed his eyes at Olivia as he came up beside her and held his hand out to shake hers.

“I’m not sure what prompted this visit,” he questioned. “But would you like to come through to my study? We can have a bit of... privacy in there.” He glanced at his wife who rolled her eyes.
